On Saturday at Zia Park (New Mexico), Peppers Pride - a 5 year old mare - won her 17th straight race.
She is undefeated and has set a new modern day record for consecutive victories in the sport of Thoroughbred Horseracing.

She trumps the record set by Citation, Cigar, Mister Frisky, and Hallowed Dreams (all of whom are tied with 16 back to back wins.)
Some folks say it isn't that big of a feat because she has never raced outside of New Mexico, but hey - a win is a win, and it's exceedingly hard in the sport of horseracing to win twice in a row, let alone 17 times - I don't care who you are.
Peppers Pride is due to be retired at the end of the year, so presumably she has only one or two races left to go.
Her owners plan to breed her but have tossed the idea around of racing her yet one more year.
I say let her retire with the record and be happy to have had her.
She's won $884,585 in her lifetime. Not bad for only running in state-bred races!
