Derby Day is upon us!

It's Derby day!

And as exicted as I am for it, my spirits are dampened by a bit of a bummer.
My favorite - the morning line favorite as well - has scratched.
Yep, no ' Want Revenge'today due to some swelling and inflammation in one of his legs.

Yeah, it's good to find out before he races and injures it further, but this is a major disappointment for many people. Especially advance bettors (such as myself) who already have Revenge as part of their exactas and trifectas and the likes.

Thankfully I have already made bets on a few other horses without including Revenge, so I still have a shot.
But it's still a black fly in the chardonnay, you know?

In other racing excitement:

Rachel Alexandra put on a helluva show in the Kentucky Oaks yesterday!!

I was on my way to the OTB when the race was going off, so I had to watch it online last night when I got home.

It's been quite awhile since I have seen a race like that. I mean - she really romped. No horse even got close to her. When she flew across the finish line, I had to count to like, 5, before any other horses even showed up. I think they said she won by twenty lengths or so.
It is quite doubtful that we will see a race like this all year. Seriously.
No, I mean it.

You can check it out by clicking here, and in the article there is a VIDEO feed. It's worth a look.
It was truly an astonishing victory. Perhaps she should have raced against the boys, eh?

Hopefully her connections will think about that. She isn't nominated to the Triple Crown races (which means they'd have to pay an exorborant fee to race her in the Preakness or Belmont) so I look forward to her this summer, kicking the boys' asses somewhere!

Congrats.

So anyway....I sit and wait.. Pre-racing starts at noon, but I have a baby shower to go to, so I'll have to catch some of that online later as well.. But this afternoon, only a F5 tornado will be able to coax me away from my television, and even then I'd grab my laptop and hope the live feed still worked.

With the defection of I Want Revenge, I'm gonna go with Friesan Fire or Pioneerof The Nile as most likely to take the roses... but I'm not throwing in the towel for the horses I mentioned yesterday. Everyone has a better shot now, truth be told.

*Even Nowhere To Hide (joining at least 4 others at morning line odds of 50-1!!!)... The son of Vindication (who himself is one of Seattle Slew's final sons) just may pull off a major upset, who knows.

So: Go, Baby, Go!!!!

More later......
