So "Proud"!

Here's a photo of the lovely Proud Spell winning the Kentucky Oaks today at Churchill Downs. The Oaks is the Kentucky Derby equivalent for fillies. That's the girls, by the way! And they can put it down on the track just like the guys can.

She's the top filly in the country right now, and she was my pick to win, so I'm pretty psyched.

Trained by Larry Jones, she is the daughter of Proud Citizen, who placed (came in second - War Emblem was the winner) at the Kentucky Derby in 2002, I believe.

Tommorrow is the BIG day. Kentucky Derby 134 !!

Of course I want PYRO to win, but I did place a couple exotic bets on a few others, including Big Brown (the prohibitive undefeated favorite), Colonel John (currently the best west coast horse), Adriano (whose jockey is Edgar Prado of Barbaro fame) and Visionaire (trained by Michael Matz of Barbaro fame as well).....

A few of my long shot choices are Z Fortune (the gray horse in the race), Cowboy Cal (whose name sounds more like a quarter horse) and Eight Belles - the lone filly in the race, trained by none other than Larry Jones, the trainer of Proud Spell.

Small world.

Go Baby Go!
