Six Pack

The Steelers can make history sunday by getting their sixth championship - they would be the only team in the NFL to get six.

The Steeler Nation is a rabid fan base.
I read somewhere today that there are Steeler fans EVERYWHERE all over Tampa, and very few Cardinal fans have been spotted. Steeler fans are well known for traveling all over the USA to see their beloved team.

Even the Prez is rooting for the Black & Gold...

good luck Steelers!!!

Hump Day Hottie

Today's hottie is one of my favorite Irishmen, Colin Farrell.

What can I say?
I like dark hair, dark eyes, and typically bad reputations.
Colin Farrell meets all of the above.
And so well...

Bonus: He can act, too.
(Just won a Best Actor Golden Globe this month for the movie 'In Bruges')

My cousin just did her own random 25, so here goes mine:

2008 Horse of the Year

Curlin has been named Horse of the Year for the second consecutive year!

photo: DRF.com

No need to rehash all his great accomplishments over this last year, they are scattered throughout the blog, under horseracing.

However, it is worth mentioning again that in 2008, he became the current highest North American money maker, with winnings of over $10 million dollars. Whoa!

He is also currently rated as the best horse in the world on dirt.

He is now retired and starts his stud career at Lane's End farm in Versailles, Kentucky this year.

Thanks for all the great memories.

I look forward to future generations of one of my favorite horses ever to set foot on the racetrack.

Hump Day Hottie

Ok, this is more like a hottie portfolio.
But who could blame me?

To be honest, I don't know the first thing about freakin' soccer, ok?
Even less about 'European soccer masquerading as football'. Whatever.

But who the hell cares.

I actually had to crop these photos just to put them on this blog. I had them on there in their original form, but I actually felt naughty just looking at them, so I did a bit of 're-arranging'. I'm sure you could tell why. I mean, the man is modeling underwear, ok?

If you are so inclined: here, here, and here are the pics of the originals. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Sometimes, he even wears clothes!

The most clothing I saw him in when googling:

And my favorite shot is below-
Naughty little grin...
Whoa.

A New Era

No matter what you believe or who you may have voted for, the day has come to put aside differences and just wish the best for our country.

Barack Obama was sworn in today at noon and deserves our respect and support as our 44th president.

Let's hope change truly is on the horizon.

Polamalu saves the season!

photo: espn.com

Well, for a little while there in the fourth quarter I was getting pretty nervous - the Ravens were gaining momentum and were within just a field goal of winning - but the Steelers pulled off the win (23-14) against the Baltimore Ravens and are headed to Tampa for Superbowl XLIII on February 1st!

Polamalu ended any hope Baltimore had left in the final minutes by putting the nail in the coffin - intercepting the ball and running it 40 yards for a touchdown. It was a perfect ending to a (very) long and grueling game!

On a side note: Here's hoping Ravens star Willie McGahee is ok after a devastating hit by Ryan Clark of the Steelers (also dazed and confused after the hit but able to walk off under his own power).... McGahee was carted off the field but appeared to be moving all his extremities. Nasty!

The Steelers will be heavy favorites to win Superbowl XLIII against the Arizona Cardinals - who have never been to the big show before. Well, they might have gotten there, but I hope they don't think it'll be easy against our formidable "D".

GO STEELERS !!!

Farewell, Grissom...

Thanks to William Petersen (a.k.a. Gil Grissom) for 9 years on CSI, one of my favorites on tv.
It just will not be the same without him. To me, he was the heart and soul of the show.

They are bringing in new blood (the awesome Lawrence Fishburne) but after the loss of Warrick (Gary Dourdan) and Sara (Jorja Fox) in the past year, it's really turning into a different show.

Anyway, I just watched Petersen's last episode and it was a good one - no huggy, teary, or sappy goodbyes - it was as it should be.
The last few minutes were a supposed well-kept secret, but in all honesty, did anyone think it would end differently?

Grissom, you'll be missed.

Hump Day Hottie

Was reading the blog of an author I like, Michelle Rowan, and she started doing a weekly pic or two of someone nice to look at. Since she herself didn't make the 'hump day hottie' phrase up, it won't hurt for me to steal it as well.

Somewhat in the same vein as my 'stupid adolescent crush of the moment' posts, here goes...

First up: the man who is my computer wallpaper at the moment. First thing I see when I look at my computer. Yum yum.

Dave Navarro.

Usually, he's wearing more eyeliner than me, like so:

But I prefer the au naturel look in the two pics above this one.

Evolution of Dance, Part 2

Because the first one was so funny...

And just in case you feel the need to be reminisce:
The vastly superior Part One:

You gotta admit, that puts a smile on your face no matter what kind of day you've been having!

Bring on the Ravens!

photo: steelers.com

Ya-hoo!
As if you didn't know: The Steelers beat the Chargers today 35-24 to advance to the AFC Championship game next sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, and have home field advantage.

The Steelers were the only one of four teams who had home field advantage this weekend for their respective playoff games. Amazingly, three of the best teams - The Giants, Panthers and Titans - all fell to what I would say were considered lesser teams - underdogs at best.

The real star of today's game was Willie Parker (above) - completely healthy and running for 146 yards and two touchdowns.

Next week's game will be tough, cause those Ravens hate us almost as badly as we hate them... but hopefully we can show them what it's like to lose THREE times to the same team in one year.

If so, it's off to the Superbowl for a date with destiny.
And a possible match up with our Pennsylvania counterpart, The Philadelphia Eagles (if they defeat the Arizona Cardinals next weekend)..
It'd really be something if the Superbowl was between two teams from PA.

Go Steelers!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!!

Love ya!

Random Entertainment Notes

This will be a messed up post - just a few things that I've been following.

*Patrick Swayze was hospitalized yesterday for pneumonia.
I think everyone knows he has stage IV pancreatic cancer, so any kind of illness - even something minor (which pneumonia isn't) could be a major set-back for him.
So I'm sure I join everyone in wishing him well.

Did anyone catch him on that Barbara Walters special wednesday night? It was a heart-wrenching, gut-busting interview with him & his wife of 33 years, Lisa.
I think I had a tear in my eye the whole hour...

When I think how many of his films I truly, truly enjoyed, I realize he did make his mark on the world.
My favorite is Dirty Dancing, which I'm sure is true of alot of people.
I so wanted to take dance lessons after watching that flick! Johnny Castle rocked.

But I also loved the tv miniseries North & South (which I own on DVD and am mega-glad I do) - he played the main star, Confederate soldier Orry Main.

Then of course there's Ghost.
I think it's the movie that started my hubby saying 'Ditto' -which he still says it to this day...

The hubby's favorite of Swayze's was Road House (bet you could see that coming..) and we both liked Red Dawn as well as many others..

* Next tidbit: Johnny Depp.
Here's one of the first photos of his upcoming film Public Enemies (July '09), in which he plays John Dillinger. Read about it and other new movies coming out in 2009 here.

Speaking of Johnny, he'll be one of the presenters at Sunday night's Golden Globe Awards.

The Globes are the primary indicator of who will snatch an Oscar nomination...
I could care less who wins, I just want to see Johnny.
Last year the Globes were cancelled due to the Writer's Strike, and wouldn't you know, it was the first time Johnny won one (for Sweeney Todd, Best Actor-Comedy or Musical)... so I deserve this time with him this year :)

*And of course, some 'Twilight' news. Actually 'New Moon' news.
There has been a raging controversy about whether or not the same actor who played Jacob Black in Twilight can continue in New Moon.

Taylor Lautner played Jacob in Twilight, and was very well cast.
The 16 year old Taylor Lautner

But for New Moon, Jacob's role is quite a bit more expansive, in fact he tries to woo Bella (Kristen Stewart) away from her vampire boyfriend, Edward (Rob Pattinson)...
And Jacob's character morphs into a hulkingly large werewolf/shapeshifter. He's supposed to look 25 and be nearly 7 feet tall with a - how do I say it politely? - beefed up physique.
I have serious issues with Lautner being convincing in the role.

He'd be way too baby faced to steal me away from Rob Pattinson (who is 22) - but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Summit Entertainment - the producer of the film - has decided to stick with Lautner for Jacob to preserve continuity. Ok.

I found this pic of Lautner as Jacob, which is alot more convincing.

And supposedly he is adding weight and muscle to his frame like crazy. Who knows, he is a growing 16 year old boy... it's quite possible that he will have a growth spurt.
Anyhoo...

*Also, the movie 'The Unborn' comes out this weekend, and does anybody else think this looks pretty eerie?
I've heard it's a cross between The Grudge and The Exorcist.
I'd be all about that.

I do know that Cam Gigandet (above with Odette Yustman ) -who played bad vampire James in Twilight- is in it... so that's cool with me, as he's quite pleasant to look at.
I don't know about you - but this is freakin' CREEPY!

Does this guy remind anyone else of Bill Nighy?

*And last but not least: The Steelers play the San Diego Chargers on sunday in a playoff game at home.

GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will we get it??

We're in the 6-12" area.... I say, bring it on!
The first real snow of the season.

Nothing like a good weekend snowstorm to hole up on the couch with a blankie, a good book and some soup on the stove while watching the snow fall...

So far, though - nothing. It's nearly midnight and it hasn't started....
Let's get a move on!

Rare sighting

A few days ago, the hubby was out burning trash in the backyard and a friend of his pulled up and told him to jump in quick he had something to show him...

They drove just a 1000 yards or so down the alleyway, and saw this:
An immature Bald Eagle.

Seriously. See how some of the hairs on his head are just starting to turn white?

They even went up to a neighbor's house (the guy is a taxidermist and well known outdoorsman) and he confirmed it.
He said Bald Eagles have been migrating south for quite a few years. Guess they are finally here. We have them up near our camp (between Marienville and Tionesta), but to have them here? Now that's different.

The eagle had pulled a deer carcass out of the weeds and was having a private feast.
Todd came back to the house immediately and grabbed the camera.
The pictures aren't super, but you can certainly still tell it's an eagle.

Pretty cool, huh?
